ADOBE PREMIERE ELEMENTS 8 AUTO ANALYZER SCENE EDITING

by Frank
(Ontario, Canada)

Question: When I drag a short 7 second video clip (.m4v format) into the Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Editor timeline it shows individual scenes. How can I get it to show the individual scenes so that I can edit them?
Frank

Answer: Thanks you for your question.

Because you have the auto analyzer feature enabled it will automatically add smart tags and detect scenes on all the data present in the Organize tab. Smart tags help you find clips under specific smart tag categories created during the auto analyzer process.

In the smart tags category in the Organizer tab you can view tags, select, and sort tags. You cannot delete or edit them but you can delete them from each clip.

While it is creating smart tags Adobe Premiere Elements detects scenes. This separates different scenes within a clip into separate sub-clips.

You can specify which quality and content categories will create sub-clips. If you don't Adobe Premiere Elements creates a sub-clip When an abrupt visual change is detected.

These are separate scenes which you should be able to edit on the timeline. If you can't here are a few tips to try.

Change the Timeline view to the Scene Selection view. You can view each scene separately here and edit them as well. Underneath the preview window you will find tabs for Timeline and Sceneline. Select Sceneline to view each scene and edit.

Stretch out your timeline. If you stretch out your timeline you should be able to see each individual split created by the auto analyzer and edit each clip. The Timeline tool looks like a clock and it is directly below the preview window. You can move the slider to the right of it to stretch out the timeline and view each scene.

Turn off Auto-Analyzer and create scenes manually.: Click "Organize", "Organizer". Select "Edit", "Preferences", "Auto Analyzer Options". Deselect "Analyze All Media In Catalog Automatically". Split your clips manually and edit them as you wish.

Good luck and have fun making your videos!

Adding Scenes Automatically
by: Anonymous

I make a lot of short videos. I always had to stretch out my timeline to create clips/scenes. I didn't have auto analyzer enabled. Now I can let Adobe do the work for me. Thanks a lot.
