Pre-Production

Pre-production is known as the steps taken prior to editing your video. Many newbies may think the only step that is needed prior to editing is pointing and shooting their camcorder. There are many things that you want to do prior to editing and even prior to shooting your video to make sure that all of your hard work looks and sounds flawless!

Remember that time you shot your first video and when you went to watch it half of the footage was the ground, the sky, or that funny diagonal view? Remember that video you made that was as shaky as that massage chair at the mall? Remember that video you made that sounded like someone was grinding meat right next to the camcorder? Well, if you know what to do you will never have to experience these fatal video flaws again. Knowledge of specific steps to take before editing will help you make videos like a pro.

The most important thing when it comes to the pre-production step is to remember that you can never be too cautious. Check, double check, and then triple check. That is the only way to avoid finding video errors in the editing step. Even though most mistakes can be adjusted and corrected in most video editing software programs (to a degree) there is nothing like a clear, crisp, perfect shot. Video editing can only do so much to correct errors. Preparation is the key to professional looking video.
